Plant-Based Omega-3 Can Reduce Heart Diseases| Researches

When we talk about Omega-3 then people think about salmon and other expensive seafood items. But, the researchers found another way of taking ALA, which people can find in flax seeds, walnuts, and in many other plant-based items.

These plant-based sources of Omega-3 not only highly expensive, but also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and fatal coronary heart disease.

A new review of research found that plant-based version of nutrients, ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) can improve the health of your heart and reduce risk heart attacks among those who don’t like to eat seafood or suffering from seafood allergy.

Penny Kris-Etherton, Evan Pugh, University Professor of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State, said there are several ways of getting the omega-3 fatty acids.

“People may not want to eat seafood for a variety of reasons. but it’s important for them to consume omega-3s to reduce the risk of heart disease and to promote overall health,”

These recommendations are equal to approximately 1/2 ounce of walnuts or just under a teaspoon of flax oil. They reduce atherogenic lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides, inflammation and blood pressure.

Kris-Etherton said:

“Plant-based ALA in the form of walnuts or flaxseeds can also provide these benefits, especially when incorporated into a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.”

Jennifer Fleming, assistant teaching professor of nutrition at Penn State, said that they also found evidence that people who eat seafood could gain additional benefits from consuming plant-based omega-3.

Felming said:

“When people with low levels of omega-3s in their diet ate ALA, they saw a benefit in terms of cardiovascular health, But when people with high levels of omega-3s from other sources ate more ALA, they also saw a benefit. It could be that ALA works synergistically with other omega-3s.”

There is no doubt, health comes first.
